Description

Mask yet again ^^ (boy I'm a roll with this here filly). She's fun to draw xD

I decided to get her entered into the Jockey Club's September monthly show, this time a race for 2 year olds in CANADA! (Good ole Woodbine racetrack! This is her first race outside of the US! I decided to show her running the backstretch of the race. OH! She's sticking out her little pink tongue xD too cute

I am trying to give her experience so I can get her into the Breeder's Cup series. So far we have yet to maiden, but we will get there, I'm sure of it!

If you are wondering why her legs are a bit darker, I had to darken their shade when I realized that I was using a colored pencil for the dirt that was roughly the same color as her coat. So yeah ^^ Had to show off those pretty legs churning up the dirt. My jockey looks horrid as usual but my main concern is the horse :D

Anyway!

Masquerade- 2 yo Thoroughbred filly racing for Obsidian Farm :flagus:
Race: Colin Stakes for 2 YO over 6 furlongs on dirt @ Woodbine racetrack in Ontario, Canada :flagcanada:
Trainer: Dante Knight
Jockey: Daniel Sorrenson

Story:

"I have hopes for her, Dara."

Dara looked up from her desk to see Dante leaning against the doorframe, looking at her with those mysterious, chocolate brown eyes. The two looked at each other for a few moments before Dara broke the silence.

"She is doing decently. Still in good health?"

"Oh she's perfect. She's showing great promise-you should be proud of her."

"I am. She's bringing in some income and keeping us all fed and happy."

Dante gave the woman a bare ghost of a smile. "You want her to win. I know you do."

"Of course I do, silly man! She can't get into the Breeder's Cup series without a maiden."

"I thought you weren't going to enter her in till next year."

"I changed my mind."

Dante chuckled and walked closer to Dara, leaning over the back of her chair and giving the top of her head an affectionate kiss. "I can see that. You're always changing your mind."

"We women like to do that, you know. Keep you men on your toes and always guessing." She smiled and winked at him before taking a sip of her coffee. In front of her were pictures of the red and black faced filly they spoke of: Masquerade. A budding two year old filly who was indeed showing tremendous strength over longer distances. She just hadn't quite pulled it together yet to take the win.

"I registered her in another race." Dara murmured as Dante pulled up a chair and sat beside her, taking her hand in his.

"Oh? Which race, dear?"

"Colin Stakes at Woodbine."

"Canada?!"

"Mmm-hmm."

Dante smiled. "That's great! Her first international race. What's the details?"

"Six furlongs on dirt for $125K."

The trainer frowned. "Wait a minute-six furlongs? On dirt? Hun you know she likes the turf and the longer runs."

"I know Dante, but right now we can't afford to be picky. She'll race in New York, come back for a week's rest then we will take the drive to Woodbine."

Dante chewed his lip. "Dara that's cutting things mighty close. Racing her back to back like that might injure her."

"That's why I asked if she's healthy. If you had said there was an issue I would have scratched her. But she's strong. And young."

"That's what worries me. We don't need another Mystery incident on our hands."

Dara had a brief flashback to the horror of the day when they lost their other chimeric filly to a devastating fall on the track. Indeed, they didn't need-nor desire-the repeat of Mystery's death. But Dara was confident. "She will be okay. Its a short race-a sprint. She won't be taxing her strength as much."

"But she'll be pushing herself harder to go faster."

"Maybe that's what she needs, Dante. We will do this. Then after that we will see where she's at. If she's ready for a Breeder's Cup qualifier race, we will get her in."

"You want a repeat of Abaddon's win?"

"One day maybe. I just think she's a champ in the making. I'm already thinking about future foals from her by Abaddon."

"They would be something, alright. IF-IF-she wins a Breeder's Cup race that is. She's a horse with a non descript racing background. Anything could happen. I need to get back to work love."

Dante stood up and kissed Dara's hand before smiling at her. "I'll see you at dinner."

"Don't be late....again!" Dara called out as he walked out the door.

Word Count: 591???

Note: Due to a question by a fellow deviant I went back through and re-counted the text's word count. My word document I use on my lap counted 681 (not including the word 'story', which would make it 682). The Deviant had said that the word count was lower than what numbers I had been given, so I used a tool online and double checked it there, and it gave me a word count of 591. Due to this, I am not certain which program reflects the more accurate number count, but to err on the safe side, I have decided to go with the word count from the online word calculator tool seen here: wordcounttools.com/

** was 682**
