Desert Sands first breeding!!

It did not take Dara very long to decide who would be bred first at Desert Sands. Ameer and Ai'da had been eying each other from a distance for quite some time. This early summer breeding would result in an April foal. If the breeding took, that was. Ida was an older mare and had already foaled twice. Dara at least wanted to have a couple more foals from the beautiful Arab mare before she was retired for good.

The Oasis pasture was the designated "breeding" pasture for the horses. The Oasis took up the largest chunk of land on Dara's 130-acre stud. Here, sand, water, and vegetation coincided quite well together. Though thousands of miles from the real desert oasis in the Middle East, the Oasis pasture was a close second. It was into this pasture that Dara first released the aging mare, then she fetched the lordly Ameer. Upon seeing the gray beauty in his pasture, Ameer hardly cared about Dara anymore. He whinnied excitedly and danced at the end of his lead, and it took a good firm tug on his lead chain before Dara dragged him under control. But before too long, the stallion was away and free and racing towards his first date of the season. Dara planned to cover all the new mares with the stallion.

Ai'da and Ameer greeted one another as old friends, snorting and whistling to each other. Then they were off and running, two of a kind, the perfect pair. Dara watched as they disappeared into the sands, then smiled and made the long walk back to the farmhouse.
