Grace and Himeros looked at each other, not sure of what to make of the other. The golden son of El Diablo was an imposing stallion, and next to him, Grace looked delicate...fragile, even. She was much older than the stud, and part of Dara worried that perhaps this breeding might overwhelm the poor mare. But, Dara remembered that Grace had been used as a broodmare for many years-she knew what to do.

Himeros suddenly gave a throaty stallion squeal and struck out with a front leg, flattening his ears, his brown eyes flashing in a instant mood swing. A second later, he was calm again. He looked around the round pen and quickly caught sight of his best bud, a grullo Appaloosa gelding pony named Khuno, held in halter and lead by a handler. Dara and Himeros' handler, Rachelle, watched intently, both women were silent as they watched the two Thoroughbreds come closer and closer.

Oddly enough, it was the stallion who stretched out his head and touched the mare's quivering nose. They breathed in each others scent, then the giant buckskin began to nuzzle Grace along her neck and shoulder, working his way to her flank and tail.

Himeros took his sweet time around Grace, sniffing and prodding her. She stood still, her head dropping low with acceptance. She flicked her tail, some invisible sign to Himeros. Less than a minute later, the covering was over. Himeros snorted after dismounting and walked to the gate, waiting to be led out, ignoring the gray mare as if she didn't exist. His eyes were on his Appy friend, and within moments, stallion and stablemate were reunited.

Breeding complete, Dara now had to wait and see if Grace took to the pregnancy.
